Scunthorpe RUFC’s promotion to National Three Midlands and subsequent trip to Twickenham

At the end of the 2009/10 season Scunthorpe RUFC were pushing for promotion to National Three Midlands and I was in Corby to cover them sealing the Midlands One East title at Stewarts & Lloyds RFC.

In the space of the next seven days Scunthorpe then faced two fellow regional champions from level six of the RFU pyramid, with the prize of a Twickenham final on offer.

An incredible week saw the Greens produce some excellent rugby to make the final and before I knew it I was off to the home of English rugby charged with writing the match report.

The experience was fantastic, mainly because it was so unexpected, and I have forged some excellent friendships at the club that will hopefully allow me to continue improving the quality of coverage that the Greens receive in our newspaper.

Below are some examples from a memorable couple of weeks, which is all my copy and some of which I sub-edited as well. If you click on the images below you can view them in full size and read the articles.
